ORGANIZATION(S): Cotton Bowl

Jim "Hoss" Brock, who served the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association as Executive Director from 1979-92 and Team Selection Chairman in 1993, has been selected for induction into the Bowl Season Hall of Fame.

Brock and the 2021 Class of inductees are set to be honored August 2-4 during the Bowl Season Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Brock ruled the roost of college football for 14 years as CBAA Executive Director. The bowl industry’s premier public relations man, he was literally on a first-name basis with the rest of the world. No such thing as a stranger. Everyone Brock met he called “Hoss.” In time, the moniker became his own. Armed with his ever-present cigar, Brock was the master at working his way through press boxes around the country with his celebrated Cotton Bowl Classic charm, always promoting the merits of college football in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on New Year’s Day. Texas hospitality was his chief commodity and nobody did a better job of selling it than Brock.

After 13 years of being the face of the Cotton Bowl Classic, the Fort Worth native assumed the role of CBAA Team Selection Chairman for one year in 1993 before his retirement. He was elected to the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame in 2005.

In addition to his work with the Cotton Bowl Classic, Brock served as the Sports Information Director for his alma mater TCU and SMU before moving to the CBAA. He also served on numerous committees at the highest level of college football, including the Davey O’Brien Foundation and Doak Walker Award, and worked in a volunteer capacity with the United States Olympic Committee as a media relations coordinator. He was a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America and the Salesmanship Club of Dallas.

He passed away on August 14, 2008, at the age of 74.
