SAN DIEGO – The San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl announced today that former San Diego Chargers linebacker and longtime local NBC sports broadcaster, Jim Laslavic, will serve as the Honorary Chairman for the 2019 game. In addition to playing for the Chargers, Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers, Laslavic was a standout linebacker at Penn State.

"I'm thrilled to be the honorary chairman of the 2019 SDCCU Holiday Bowl," said Laslavic, who was a third-round draft choice by the Detroit Lions. "Having the opportunity to enjoy the bowl game experience and come full circle here in San Diego is truly amazing. I've so enjoyed the Holiday Bowl through the years both as a broadcaster and fan. I can't wait for bowl week."

"Jim has been an amazing supporter of the Holiday Bowl for many, many years as a broadcaster and friend," said SDCCU Holiday Bowl CEO Mark Neville. "He's professional and personable, and over the course of several decades created a lasting impact by always doing things the right way.  He is the perfect choice to be our 2019 honorary chair."

Laslavic will be part of various festivities surrounding the SDCCU Holiday Bowl, including leading the way as Grand Marshal of the Port of San Diego Holiday Bowl Parade. The 42nd annual game is Friday, Dec. 27 at 5 p.m. [PST] and will be televised nationally on FS1. The SDCCU Holiday Bowl matches top football teams from the Pac-12 and Big Ten conferences.

The Honorary Chairman title is awarded annually to individuals who have contributed to San Diego's sports scene and society in a meaningful way.  Past honorary chairs include Bill Walton, Randy Jones, Don Coryell and Meb Keflezighi.
